Overview

Echo Lake is the reservoir from which Wooded Lake Drive derives its name. It has been in place for more than 60 years, long predating the creation of our neighborhood.

A rich and diverse wetlands/riparian habitat, it is home to an abundance of wildlife and part of the fabric of our neighborhood. The reservoir and related land is designated not to be used for residential development.

Brief History

Echo Lake, formed by an earthen dam created in the 1950’s, captures water from Golf Creek and several of its tributaries. In 1972, Almaden Villa Tract 5472 was formed by the Del Webb company and these represent the first 100 plus home sites in our neighborhood. Del Webb and the original homeowners agreed to include Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions (CC&R’s) in the deeds of every home that stipulate the existence of the reservoir and that the three related reservoir lots “shall not be used for residential purposes” in perpetuity.

After selling all of the beautiful home sites in our tract, the developer later gifted the three “lake lots” to the Almaden Golf and Country Club. This deed specifically incorporated the same CC&R’s that serve to protect the reservoir lots from residential development unless amended by a majority of the members of Almaden Tract 5472. For nearly three generations (and tens of millions of dollars of real estate transactions), the homeowners have relied on the assurances of the developers and real estate people that the CC&R’s serve to preserve our unique neighborhood.

Our Efforts

In the course of trying to simply live our lives and enjoy the most wonderful aspects of our community, we find ourselves needing to maintain vigilance to protect the CC&R rights we acquired with the purchase of our homes. In doing so, we can preserve the unique and beautiful Echo Lake habitat that graces our neighborhood.

Community Meetings

On several occasions over the past decade, we have hosted community meetings to provide information, gather opinions, and align our interests. Given the recent changes to all our lives related to COVID-19, future meetings might likely be held online (i.e. via Zoom).
